Damascus or Pattern welded steel
The Damascus steel process, known as modern pattern welding, involves layering two or more contrasting steels, forge welding them into a solid billet, then repeatedly folding, cutting and re-welding the billet to build hundreds of layers.
This creates unique wavy patterns that are revealed through grinding, polishing and acid etching. The resulting blades are both durable and beautiful.
